The World Trade Center Amsterdam (WTC) opened its doors almost 40 years ago and has since become a landmark on the Zuidas. The building – known as ‘The place to connect’ – has grown to become the largest office building in the Netherlands. With its nine towers, the complex provides more than 156,000 square meters of office space. Located in the bustling Zuidas district of Amsterdam, WTC Amsterdam carries a rich history with it.
WTC Amsterdam opened in 1985 as a complex of four office towers (A, B, C, and D) situated between Zuidplein and Beethovenstraat. At that time, WTC Amsterdam was part of the emerging Zuidas, a prime location for national and international businesses. In 1997, management transitioned to CBRE Investment Management’s Dutch Office Fund, overseeing a successful expansion of the complex. This marked the transformation of WTC Amsterdam into a premier office complex, a cornerstone in Amsterdam’s business landscape.
Particularly over the past two decades, significant changes and improvements have taken place. In 2002, WTC Amsterdam underwent a major renovation. The existing towers were refurbished, and the complex was expanded with five new towers: E, F, G, H, and I. Some of these are situated on the opposite side of Zuidplein. In 2004, this square was also completely modernized, enhancing both its accessibility and aesthetic appeal.
In 2018, Tower D – now rebranded as Tower Ten – underwent a thorough renovation. With the addition of HOFF in Tower Ten, a new milestone was reached: Europe’s first 5-star office. In 2023, all towers were given new names, from Tower One to Ten. The commitment to ongoing innovation, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, remains unwavering.
